The difference between tourists and travellers

As globalization continues, traveling becomes more affordable and easier, so more and more people visit new countries. However, these people all experience the new country differently. Some people only travel in groups and 5-star hotels, others experience the country on their own and live with the locals. As a result, the tourists split into tourists and travelers. Why life as a traveler is much better and how you can make that possible, you will now find out:

1) Book your accommodation

Try to find an accommodation that is centrally located or easily accessible by public transport. Look for guesthouses or book a room on airbnb. The advantage is, that you get to know local people, who can tell you some insider tips. Don`t book a room in a big-company-hotel. These are usually kept neutral and timeless, look the same in almost every country and thus go bad on the local life. There, you will only meet other tourists who don`t want to visit the country on their own and who are always following their tour-guide

2) Inform yourself about manners and habits

Try to adapt to the local people and don`t show that you`re a tourist. For example, you should not pack a mini skirt and high heels on a trip to Saudi Arabia. Also, learn about cultural and social manners and try to follow them as much as possible.

3) Live like a local

Don`t sit on the floor of the Piazza San Marco with your Cheeseburger from McDonalds and complain about the pigeons. Go to places where locals like to spend their time. Avoid large supermarkets and fast food chains. Instead, go to the market or to small pubs and restaurants.

4) Use public transport

Do not call a taxi every time you want to leave your accomodation, instead you should use public transport or walk. You will experience the country much better and you will meet other locals who can help you with the most complicated subway.

5) Always stay respectful

No matter how well you feel and how much the local people like you, you are still a guest. Don`t forget that.

6) Stay in touch and come back

Keep in touch with your new friends and invite them to your home country. If you liked the country, visit it as soon as possible again

Durch die ständige Globalisierung wird Reisen immer erschwinglicher und einfacher, sodass immer mehr Menschen neue Länder aufsuchen. Doch diese verschiedene Menschen nehmen dieses Land alle unterschiedlich war. Manche bewegen sich nur in Reisegruppen und 5-Sterne-Hotels, andere lernen das Land auf eigene Faust kennen und leben mit den Einheimischen. Dadurch spalten sich die Urlauber in Touristen und Reisenden. Warum das Leben als Reisender viel ergiebiger ist und wie du das auch ermöglichen kannst, erfährst du jetzt:

1)Buche deine Unterkunft

Versuche, eine Unterkunft zu finden, die in zentraler Lage ist oder mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln gut zu erreichen ist. Schaue dich nach gemütlichen Pensionen um, die von Einheimischen geführt werden, oder buche dir ein Zimmer auf airbnb. Der Vorteil hierbei ist, dass du direkt Einheimische kennenlernst, die dir einige Geheimtipps verraten können. Buche nur im Notfall ein Zimmer in einem Mega-Konzern-Hotel. Diese werden meistens neutral und zeitlos gehalten, sind in fast jedem Land gleich und gehen somit schlecht auf das einheimische Leben ein. Außerdem wirst du dort nur auf andere Touristen treffen, die genau das wollen und das Land nur mit Reisegruppen erforschen wollen.

2)Informiere dich über Sitten und Gepflogenheiten

Versuche, dich den Einheimischen anzupassen und nicht direkt als „Tourist“ abgestempelt zu werden. So solltest du z.B. bei einem Trip nach Saudi-Arabien keinen Minirock und High-Heels einpacken. Informiere dich außerdem über kulturelle und soziale Sitten und versuche, diesen so gut wie möglich zu folgen.

3)Lebe wie ein Einheimischer

Setz dich nicht mit deinem Cheeseburger von McDonalds auf den Piazza San Marco und beschwere dich über die vielen Tauben, sondern suche Orte auf, an denen Einheimische gerne ihre Zeit verbringen. Vermeide große Supermärkte und Schnellimbiss-Ketten und gehe stattdessen auf den Markt oder in kleine Kneipen und Restaurants.

4)Benutze öffentliche Verkehrsmittel

Rufe dir nicht jedes Mal wo du deine Unterkunft verlassen willst ein Taxi, sondern benutze die öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel oder laufe zu Fuß. Dadurch wirst du das Land wie es nun mal ist, kennenlernen. Außerdem wirst du so auf weitere Einheimische treffen, die dir auch bei dem kompliziertesten U-Bahn-Netz weiterhelfen können.

5)Bleibe immer respektvoll

Egal wie wohl du dich fühlst und wie gut du von den Einheimischen aufgenommen wurdest, bleibst du immer noch ein Gast. Vergiss das nicht.

6)Bleibe in Kontakt und komme wieder

Bleibe in Kontakt mit deinen neuen Freunden und lade sie in dein Heimatsland ein. Besuche das Land, falls es dir gefallen hat, so bald wie möglich wieder
