Fridays for future: La protesta di una ragazza che ha mobilitato il mondo intero

Fridays for Future. È questo il nome del movimento internazionale nato dall’iniziativa di una ragazza, allora appena quindicenne, di Stoccolma. Il nome del movimento si ispira alla storia dell’ormai nota attivista Greta Thunberg, che ogni venerdì scioperava dalla scuola per protestare contro governi che secondo lei sembravano e sembrano tuttora non curarsi dei rischi ambientali che minacciano il futuro dei giovani.

Nello specifico, l’obiettivo dell’intero movimento è quello di chiedere ai governi delle nazioni di tutto il mondo di eliminare l’utilizzo di combustibili fossili, azzerando le emissioni a livello globale entro il 2050, nel rispetto dell’accordo di Parigi del 2015. Le manifestazioni organizzate da Fridays for Future vengono sempre svolte in modo pacifico e, come riportato anche sul sito italiano del movimento, escludono qualsiasi azione o reazione violenta.

Le manifestazioni di Fridays for Future sono iniziate nel novembre del 2018. Da allora ad oggi sono state organizzate alcune delle iniziative di protesta più grandi di sempre; ricordiamo ad esempio lo sciopero del 15 marzo 2019 che ha coinvolto più di un milione di studenti nelle città di tutto il mondo, come New York, Bruxelles, Sidney, Parigi, Mosca, Berlino, e più di 100 città italiane.

Fridays for Future è tutt’altro che superato. Lo sciopero globale più recente indetto dal movimento ha avuto luogo il 3 marzo 2023, coinvolgendo anche questa volta molte città di tutto il mondo.

Secondo molte testate giornalistiche, però, i quattro anni di continue manifestazioni e scioperi da parte del movimento, avrebbero portato risultati scarsi o addirittura nulli. I Governi mondiali, soprattutto a causa della pandemia di Covid-19, e della guerra ancora in corso tra Russia e Ucraina, non ritengono l’utilizzo di energia pulita e di fonti rinnovabili una priorità.

Altre fonti giornalistiche, invece, scrivono a favore del movimento Fridays for Future, dichiarando che tutti possiamo fare la nostra parte per cambiare questa situazione (a iniziare dal modificare le nostre abitudini), ma che coloro che devono essenzialmente agire sono innanzitutto i governi. Secondo queste fonti gli unici che possono spingere gli stati ad agire sono proprio i cittadini, inviando un messaggio chiaro, rappresentato nei tanti cartelli colorati con cui i ragazzi  scendono in piazza durante le manifestazioni.

Fridays for future: The protest of a girl who mobilized the whole world

Fridays for Future. This is the name of the international movement born from the individual initiative of a girl, then just fifteen, in Stockholm. The name of the movement is inspired by the story of the famous activist Greta Thunberg, who every Friday went on strike from school to protest against governments that, according to her, seemed and still seem not to care about the environmental risks that threaten the future of young people.

“Specifically, the goal of the entire movement is to call on governments of nations around the world to eliminate the use of fossil fuels, eliminating global emissions by 2050, in compliance with the 2015 Paris agreement.” The manifestations organized by Fridays for Future are always carried out peacefully and, as reported on the Italian website of the movement, exclude any violent action or reaction.

Fridays for Future started in November 2018. Since then, it has organized some of the biggest protest manifestations ever; we remember for example the strike of 15th March 2019, that involved more than a million students from cities around the world such as New York, Brussels, Sydney, Paris, Moscow, Berlin, and more than 100 Italian cities.

Fridays for Future is far from over. The most recent global strike called by the movement took place on March 3rd, 2023, involving also this time many cities around the whole world.

According to many newspapers, however, the four years of continuous demonstrations and strikes have brought little or no results. World Governments, mainly due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the war between Russia and Ukraine, do not consider the use of clean energy and renewable sources a priority.

Other media, however, write in favour of the Fridays for Future movement, declaring that we can all do our part to change this situation (starting from changing our habits), but that those who must act are first of all the governments. According to these sources, the only ones that can push the states to act are normal citizens, who can send clear messages, summarized in the many colourful signs which people show during the strikes of Fridays for Future.
