"Preserve, change, or let things slide: What moves young people and what do they move around the year 2020?" This has been the new main topic of the intercultural youth magazine trait d’union since 2019, and it will keep us busy for quite some time. 

The topics we will be treating are as diverse as the children and young people all over the world themselves. Some are struggling to survive in an environment of hardship and/or violence; attending school would be the fulfillment of a dream for them! Others are completing an apprenticeship or working on the foundation of a start-up. What does the world of work look like in the twenties, when young people enter it – if they can find the entrance? What about the media habits of young people and the way they perceive the world in general? How do they use the Internet, what do they worry about, and how should the World Wide Web develop from their point of view? Are young people primarily concerned with personal matters such as recognition, friendship and love, or are they more committed than in recent decades to political and social goals, e.g. in the fight against climate change or for more tolerance towards diversity? But does the majority of those who are committed to something think like that at all? Aren’t xenophobic and nationalistic aspirations increasingly popular, especially among young people? Last but not least: What about the relationship between the generations? Do the conflicts or the similarities predominate today? 

The answers that children and young people within one particular society can give to all these questions are certainly not uniform. How much more differences will be noticed when different countries and cultures of the world are also taken into account. We are interested in these differences, but also in the similarities of everything that young people have in common in the different places of the world today. That is why we invite children and young people from different countries and cultures, but also those who care for them, to participate in this project with their ideas and contributions: With concrete suggestions for topics, texts, painted pictures, photos and music, podcasts or videos. But, of course, also to communicate with each other: to exchange information, experiences and different perspectives.

A short teaser from trait d’union TV on the new topic "Young people around 2020": an interview with Professor Michael Sterner from Scientists for Future.

„Bewahren, verändern oder laufen lassen: Was bewegt und was bewegen junge Menschen rund um das Jahr 2020?“ So lautet seit 2019 das neue Hauptthema der interkulturellen Jugendzeitung trait d’union, das uns noch eine ganze Weile beschäftigen wird.

Die Themen, die wir uns vornehmen werden, sind so vielfältig wie die Kinder und Jugendlichen in aller Welt selbst. Die einen kämpfen ums Überleben in einer Umgebung der Not und/oder Gewalt; eine Schule zu besuchen wäre für sie die Erfüllung eines Traums! Andere absolvieren eine Lehre oder arbeiten an der Gründung eines Startups. Wie sieht die Berufswelt in den Zwanziger Jahren aus, in die Jugendliche eintreten – wenn sie denn den Eingang finden? Wie steht es um die Mediengewohnheiten Jugendlicher und überhaupt die Art, wie sie die Welt wahrnehmen? Wie nutzen sie das Internet, was macht ihnen dabei eventuell Sorgen, wie sollte sich das WorldWideWeb aus ihrer Sicht weiterentwickeln? Bewegt die jungen Leute in erster Linie Persönliches wie Anerkennung, Freundschaft und Liebe oder setzen sie sich mehr als in den letzten Jahrzehnten für politische und soziale Ziele ein, z.B. im Kampf gegen den Klimawandel oder für mehr Toleranz gegenüber Diversität? Aber denkt der Großteil derer, die sich für etwas einsetzen, überhaupt so? Finden nicht fremdenfeindliche und nationalistische Bestrebungen gerade auch unter Jugendlichen immer mehr Anklang? Last not least: Wie steht es um das Verhältnis zwischen den Generationen? Überwiegen heutzutage die Konflikte oder die Gemeinsamkeiten? 

Die Antworten, die Kinder und Jugendliche innerhalb einer bestimmten Gesellschaft auf all diese Fragen geben können, sind sicher nicht einheitlich. Wie viel mehr Unterschiede wird man feststellen, wenn man auch noch verschiedene Länder und Kulturen der Welt berücksichtigt. Uns interessieren diese Unterschiede, aber auch die Gemeinsamkeiten von alldem, was junge Menschen an den verschiedenen Orten der heutigen Welt umtreibt. Deswegen laden wir Kinder und Jugendliche aus verschiedenen Ländern und Kulturen, aber auch die, die sich um sie kümmern, dazu ein, sich bei diesem Projekt mit ihren Ideen und Beiträgen zu beteiligen: Mit konkreten Themenvorschlägen, Texten, gemalten Bildern, Fotos und Musik, Podcasts oder Videos. Aber natürlich auch dazu, miteinander darüber zu kommunizieren: um Informationen, Erfahrungen und unterschiedliche Perspektiven auszutauschen.
