The following article was written as part of the trait d`union online workshop “The fight against discrimination and the discussion on how to” between editors from Liceo Sesto Properzio di Assisi/Italy and Gisela-Gymnasium Munich/Germany in March 2022.

Anni di razzismo

Al giorno d`oggi il razzismo è un argomento molto discusso. Per chi non conoscesse il significato di questa parola, essa significa discriminazione a danno di qualsiasi individuo o categoria. 

Al giorno d`oggi è importante che tutti sappiano che essere razzisti è sbagliato per non ripetere le cose orribili accadute nella storia come l`olocausto, o l`apartheid o l`odio verso il popolo asiatico a causa del Covid-19. 

Nel 2020 è nato il movimento Black Lives Matter. Si occupa di proteggere le persone discriminate e le minoranze. Le marce pacifiche iniziarono quando un agente di polizia uccise un uomo di colore senza alcuna motivazione valida negli Stati Uniti il 25 maggio 2020. All`epoca il poliziotto non andò in carcere perché era un pubblico ufficiale. La gente si oppose e decise di esprimere il proprio dissenso riunendosi e camminando, ribellandosi, parlando di una situazione che doveva essere cambiata. Erano determinati a non fermarsi finché qualcuno non avesse reso giustizia all`innocente ucciso. La partecipazione avrebbe portato risultati sempre più grandi. Così tutti hanno iniziato a condividere sui social pubblicando dettagli o parlando e informando le persone che ignoravano il fatto. Soprattutto gli influencer, che hanno una grande quantità di follower, hanno condiviso tutto il possibile per informare. Purtroppo. È quasi diventata una tendenza e la gente ha iniziato a non prenderla sul serio come avrebbe dovuto. Con l`obiettivo di placare il tutto la giurisdizione ha deciso di condannare il poliziotto assassino. 

Nel 2022 le proteste si sono interrotte, ma il movimento BLM esiste ancora e agisce per fermare il razzismo, o almeno per fare qualcosa che possa sembrare simile alla giustizia per tutte le persone innocenti che sono state uccise da allora. 

Years of Racism

Nowadays racism is a much-debated topic. For those who don’t know the meaning of this word, it means discrimination against any individual or category. 

Today it is important that everyone knows that being racist is wrong, not to repeat the awful things that happened in history as the holocaust, or the apartheid or the hate towards Asian people because of Covid-19.  

In 2020 the Black Lives Matter movement was born. It is concerned with the protection of discriminated people and minorities. Peaceful marches started when a police officer killed a black man without any valid motivation in the USA on 25th May 2020. At that time the policeman didn’t go to jail because he was a public official. People stood up to this and decided to express their dissent gathering together, walking, rebelling, talking about a situation which needed to be changed. They were determined not to stop until someone would give justice to the innocent victim. They thought participation would have brought bigger and bigger results. So, everyone started to post details about it on social media or talking and informing people who were not aware of the fact. Especially the influencers, who have a big amount of followers, started to share any possible information. Unfortunately. It almost became a trend and people did not take it as seriously as it should have been. Then the situation degenerated into a riot, not a peaceful meeting anymore. With the objective to appease everything the jurisdiction decided to sentence the killer officer.  

In 2022 the protests ended but the BLM movement still exists and acts to stop racism, to at least do something that can look similar to justice for all the innocent people that have been killed since then.
